Narodny Rock and the G7's Men of Action

Barely three months later in Sept. 2007, however, the global banking crisis had spread onto Britain's high streets, creating the first open "banking run" in more than 130 years at Northern Rock - one of the nation's top five mortgage lenders.

Darling has clearly been hard at work ever since...fixing everything that let Northern Rock go from £12.29 per share to £0.52 on the stock market - a full 95% slump - as it soaked up £26 billion ($50.4bn) in emergency loans from the Bank of England.

The G7's Men of Action

"What you can do at an international level, I believe, is make sure we have better early warning systems," he told CNBC in a relaxed chat last week after the G-7 summit in Tokyo.

"[We can] make sure that, er, when it comes to, er, off-balance sheet arrangements, or when it comes to the way that credit reference...er, credit rating agencies behave, then there does need to be international co-operation.

Debate takes on contentious air for U.S. Democrats

Of course they need political advertisings to make a living, but sacrificing the basic principles of fairness for profits or self-interest motivations is not just or acceptable. Obama camp has done very good job in maintaining a very good relationship with the media since they got huge donations to spend big, many reporters/analysts in this election season tend to put too much wrong emotion into their reportings. Never before was there a woman and a black running for President of the US, not you have and two of them. Race and gender did not get so much emotional attentions for the voters in the past. This is the first time this sensitive issue came into real life.

Hillary for long time, ever since her involvement with the public health reform effort during Bill's reign, she became a very hated political person by some and at the same time very much respected and supported by some others.

Australian dollar set to strike US95c soon

THE Australian dollar hit a fresh 24-year high over US94 cents today on the release of strong economic data and analysts say it could hit US95 cents in offshore trade tonight.

The Australian dollar hit $US0.9451 at 12 noon AEDT after the Australian Bureau of Statistics said today new private capital expenditure rose 5.1 per cent in real terms, seasonally adjusted, in the December quarter. The data was stronger than expected. The peak of $US94.51 cents is its highest level against the US currency since March 27, 1984, when it reached $US0.9475. At 4.06pm AEDT, the currency was quoted at US94.10 cents, holding much of its gains. The dollar is up from yesterday's close of $US0.9361/63. The market had forecast a rise in new private capital expenditure of 3.1 per cent and Citigroup director of economics Stephen Halmarick said the strong data would help maintain the Australian dollar at these high levels.

Seniors, disabled must file to get tax rebates

Giving them a role in jump-starting the flagging economy, Congress decided seniors and the disabled would get tax-rebate checks as part of a $168 billion economic stimulus plan passed earlier this year.

The only problem: Many of them either don't know it or don't know they need to file a tax return to get their share, local community advocates fear.

As a result, potentially thousands of the 3.2 million Floridians whose sole income is from Social Security or disability payments might not get the $300 checks pledged by the government.

Other taxpayers will be sent checks for $600 automatically when they file returns, $1,200 for couples filing jointly.

''We know many seniors in Florida are struggling now with the increased cost of gas, healthcare and insurance .

Crush your Credit Card Debt

It is not an exaggeration of fact that the recent decade has been witnessing an explosion in levels and numbers of credit card debt among the Britons. The relative ease of obtaining plastic money coupled with the anemic growth of wages has inspired more and more Britons to spend more than they make. Many of them are in a regular practice of living on borrowed money. It is easy to collapse under the pressure of crushing credit card debt. But smart people take some sensible steps to protect themselves and their credit worthiness.

It is a myth that getting into debt is easy and getting out of debt is difficult. The loan that took only days or weeks to accumulate can take years or even decades to get rid of. You may be aware of the statistics of the BoE that a small credit card balance can take 30 years to pay off if only the minimum payment is made each month.
